Virginia Beach sits where the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic, and the U.S. Navy all meet, and none of them is going to move for your boat. Twice a year a lot of catamarans and motor yachts pass through here: south in the fall, north in the spring, usually with an owner who'd like it done by a specific weekend.

That's why it's our second base. We line up licensed captains for deliveries, relocations, and new-owner runs out of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake, for catamarans and motor yachts roughly 40 to 100 feet.

What we do here

Deliveries. Point A to point B, with a captain who plans the route and tells you the truth about the schedule.
Seasonal relocations. Bringing the boat south for winter or back up for summer, down the ICW or offshore, depending on the boat and the forecast.
Captains for new owners. A captain aboard while you get to know the boat, including runs where an insurer wants a captain on board for now.
Handoff to training. When you're ready to take the helm yourself, our sister company YachtTrain, now in Virginia Beach as well as Fort Lauderdale, runs a six-day week on your own boat after closing, the kind of training insurers commonly accept for sign-off. Whether it satisfies your policy depends on your insurer, so check your own policy or ask your agent.

Local knowledge

Mile Zero. The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway officially starts in Norfolk. Heading south, you choose between the Albemarle & Chesapeake route through the Great Bridge Lock and the shallower, prettier Dismal Swamp Canal. Draft and bridge clearance usually make the choice for you.
Navy traffic. The Elizabeth River and the approaches to Naval Station Norfolk carry warships with security zones around them. A captain who knows the rhythm here doesn't make you learn it by radio.
The Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Getting in or out of the Bay means passing the Bridge-Tunnel through Thimble Shoal or Chesapeake Channel, often alongside commercial traffic.
Going outside. Offshore runs south put Cape Hatteras on the itinerary, which is why the weather window matters more than the calendar.
Small inlets. Rudee and Lynnhaven inlets in Virginia Beach can shoal, so local, current conditions beat an old chart.
