Yacht Delivery After Closing: The Broker’s Last Mile

Yacht & Boat Services Fort Lauderdale

Congratulations. Offer, survey, sea trial, the punch list, the closing-day paperwork, the wire. The deal is closed.

The boat is sitting in Fort Lauderdale. The buyer lives in Annapolis, or Newport, or somewhere with a lake and ambitions.

Technically, your job is done. Practically, the buyer still thinks of it as “the boat you sold me,” and will keep thinking of it until it’s tied up at their dock. Whatever happens between here and there gets filed under your name.

Delivery is the last part of the sale

Buyers remember closing as paperwork. They remember delivery as the story they tell at the yacht club. It goes one of two ways.

In one version, a captain shows up with a plan. The route has fuel stops and bail-out ports. The weather window is picked by someone who reads forecasts for a living. The buyer gets updates that are short and boring, and boring is exactly what you want from a boat on the move.

In the other version, the buyer’s cousin, who “has done a lot of boating,” takes it up the coast.

We’d prefer you never hear the second story.

What we handle, so you don’t get the phone call

Premium Captains is the logistics desk. We move catamarans and motor yachts, roughly 40 to 100 feet, from where they were sold to where they’re going. That means routing, weather calls, fuel planning, crew, and a captain who treats someone else’s new boat like it cost a lot of money, because it did.

If the buyer wants to ride along, that works too. They’ll arrive knowing where the fuel goes and what the boat sounds like at cruise. A ride-along isn’t the training insurers commonly accept for sign-off, though. For real after-closing training on their own boat, our sister program YachtTrain often fits, depending on what the insurer asks for.

The handoff

When a deal closes and the boat has to go somewhere, send us the boat, where it is, where it’s going, and roughly when. We’ll tell you honestly what the window looks like.

Text (or call) (754) 254-1819 or email MyTeam@PremiumCaptains.com.

Your client gets their boat. You get a client who calls you for the next one.
